Need a transponder key programmed in Vancouver or Burnaby? We cut and program chip keys for most vehicles on-site — no tow truck, no dealership.
A transponder key looks like a normal car key, but inside the plastic head is a tiny electronic chip. When you insert the key and turn it, the chip transmits a unique encrypted code to your car's immobilizer system. If the code matches, the immobilizer disables itself and the engine starts. If there is no chip, or the wrong chip, the engine will not start — even if the physical key blade is a perfect match for your locks. This is what makes transponder keys such an effective theft deterrent, and it is also what makes cutting a replacement more complex than a standard key.
Houdini Locksmith cuts and programs transponder keys on-site for virtually every vehicle make and model sold in Canada. We carry a mobile key cutting machine that produces precise key blades, and professional transponder programming devices that allow us to read your vehicle's existing key data and clone or re-program a new chip to match. For vehicles where all keys are lost, we use your vehicle's VIN number and on-board diagnostic port to initialize a brand new key from scratch.
Transponder key programming is a service that many people do not realize a mobile locksmith can perform. They assume it is something only the dealership can do. In reality, we have the same programming capability as a dealership service department — we just come to your location, charge less, and complete the job faster.
